Alpha Lipoic Acid
Alpha lipoic acids (ALA) are organic compounds known for their antioxidant properties.
Benefits:
- Studies have shown ALA’s support for nerve health resulting in reduction of pain and tingling sensations in the extremities, especially in diabetic neuropathy. Studies have also suggested ALA can improve insulin resistance supporting blood sugar. Alpha Lipoic Acid has been proven to support skin aging by slowing the breakdown of collagen, improving elasticity and roughness in the skin. Additional research suggests ALA also supports brain health and memory by supporting the nerve tissues reducing inflammation and free radicals. Studies have also shown ALA’s ability to support heart health, by controlling inflammation, supporting reperfusion after heart injury, and lowering blood pressure.
Mechanism of Action:
- In IV therapy, ALA is a powerful antioxidant that helps key enzymes in the powerhouse of the cell turning nutrients into energy. Protects cells from oxidative damage by preventing free radical formation. Alpha Lipoic Acids' natural anti-inflammatory properties are utilized to strengthen defense mechanisms and promote healing within the body. Lysine inhibits the synthesis of arginine-proteins that are required for the reproduction of HSV.
Dosage:
-
Alpha Lipoic Acid dosages for IV therapy are under our physician protocol recommended daily doses and customized based on individual health needs and goals.
Potential Side Effects:
- Potential side effects are generally rare, but can include fatigue, mild gastrointestinal discomfort including diarrhea, and skin rash. In addition, it can lower blood sugar levels so it is important to be aware and monitor for any sudden changes in mentation, clammy skin, dizziness and other signs of hypoglycemia. If currently on a blood thinner, bruising can occur, as ALA can slow blood clotting factors potentially resulting in thinner blood.
